This is brilliant. To me this video is a commentary on a generation of pseudo-talent that has, against all common sense, been affirmed into failure by well-meaning parents. If these guys are for real, then, well, bless their hearts!

I'm with you. I hope it's meant as a joke.
I think we can go to far, but then there comes a time when our kids hopefully have enough sense to know that maybe mom and/or dad are a little biased and their own success or failure will let them know where their real talent lies.

I am not sure if we are affirming children into failure, but we might be failing in our attempts to affirm our children. Would honesty not be the best affirmation? I would say to these boys "enjoy your band, but don't put all of your eggs in this basket…It has a hole in it" Sometimes life sucks, some times there is a definite looser and it could be you. My step dad had a great way of saying it to me as I grew up – "sometimes you win, sometimes you lose and sometimes you just get rained out."
I like your step dad's saying. The rain is not your fault, but you're still not getting to play.
I agree. We have to give them encouragement and help them find their true talents and not continue to create a false sense of success that's going to crash soon or later. American Idol has shown us the consequences of false hope.
