Is It Time for a New Do?

18

The Fashion Friday post makes a come back. Today’s topic: men’s haircut. This is of personal interest because I decided to grow my hair out six weeks ago, and now I find myself in the awkward transitional stage, or what I call, one-more-bad-hair-day-away from getting it chopped off again. I’ve heard it said that most men will stay with the same hair style of the time in life they felt the most popular. If there’s any truth in that statement then take a look at these pictures, do you see anyone familiar in them?

Aah, the 70's were a frightening time for men's hair. Long but no product and obviously no conditioner either.

Mullets, highlights and the introduction of hair mousse defined the 80's scene. I was guilty of all it.

David Beckham had every possible hairstyle during the 90's. From the faux hawk, to highlighted tips to #2 setting on the clippers, he tried them all

Long hair has made a come back and it's pretty much a free for all.

Fashion Friday Mad Men Maurilio Amorim

Thanks to Mad Men, the corporate look of the 60's is making a comeback. I'm making a play for the Don Draper cut.

Do you know anyone, even you, who’s stuck with a past due hairdo?

Are you considering a new hairstyle? Which one?

I don't know if you can tell from my profile picture, but I am bald. Been bald since I was 25 years old. I'm 60 now, so used to it. In fact I like the look! Lots of guys on the East Coast seem to shave their heads although not bald — sort of baldy want to be's. And it fits my last name — Baldwin.
Oh well, thank you for the post.
    Blessings,
    Dave

    • Dave, it's working for you, name and all. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by and being a good sport.

      • dmbaldwin

Not a problem. I really do enjoy reading your blog. Keep up the great work.
        Blessings,
        Dave

  • Guys who rock the bald head are serious men.

I had rocked all the mullets you could. The rooster and faux hawks that dominate the pulpits need to change (my hair is different than my loverly profile shot), but those long hair comeback photos make me barf.

Another trend that your blog needs to address is those 15 and under – who never lived in the 80s, trying to bring the 80s glasses and Cosby family style back into play. They're doing it wrong.

And you know Maurilio, it doesn't exist unless theres a photo to prove, so lets see this long hairdo.

    • Chase, the operative word to describe my current "do" is "transitional" I'm not ready for prime time yet. Give me another 6 weeks and I might need to have another headshot. Do you know a good photographer? 🙂

  • People might pay handsomely to see your mullet photos. Another revenue stream?…. just saying.

    • I'm not quite that desperate yet, but I could get there soon.

  • Hmmm. Let's re-"cap"

Butch, Flat top, long parted down the middle, feathered back (ala Shawn Cassidy) Long Straight (ala Todd Rundgren), 80's covered all the mullets, even a permed one (yeah, not so good) Duran-ish, Flock of Seagulls, early 90's long (halfway down my back…and heavily hair-sprayed…I spent probably 30 minutes on my hair each morning), One length to shoulder (ala Color Me Bad…who?), Hugh Grant cut, then finally my current very short spikey-messy (sort of came full circle).

I've been wearing this same style for the past 12 years. It's been so nice to not touch a hair dryer. I've been considering growing mine out, as well. Like you, I can't stand that whole transitional period…nor the thought of spending more than 20 seconds on my hair.

Perhaps I am "Locked" into this style!

    • I'm currently struggling with spending more than 20 seconds on my hair as well. I used a hair dryer for the first time in over a decade last week. It was weird.

The fact that you know that much about hair is scary. Clearly I know/have little andplan to keep it that way.

    • Clipper #4 works well on you, Tod. But I bet you would look good with hair.

  • Scott Kuhn

i think your readers deserve a peak at your with a mullet. that'd be awesome.

    • Scott Kuhn

of course, i meant 'you with a mullet'. and now for a new keyboard…

  • Bald is beautiful

  • So funny, Mario. My wife is 'pushing' me in the new hairstyle direction of leaving it a little longer. Very uncomfortable for me. I have to ask her every couple days if she is SURE that it is looking OK. She swears that it does…I hope she is right…

    • Maurilio Amorim

If the wife says it’s OK, then it’s OK. Go with it.

  • Fluffbald

John Bonham,Robert Plant,Jimmy Page and Jonesy look adorable with that hair. Absolutely love their hairstyle.
